Smart Gardening

Lisa Novick, Director of Outreach for the Theodore Payne Foundation for wild flowers & Native Plant, Inc. will be at the library. She will present photos of gardens using California natives that are easy to sustain with very little maintenance.  Event will be held in Reese Hall at 1 PM

Monday, May 13

Children's Chapter Book Club: Hoot by Carl Hiaasen

Join us as we discuss this month’s title over tasty snacks. Roy, who is new to his small Florida community, becomes involved in another boy’s attempt to save a colony of burrowing owls from a proposed construction site. Best for 5th grade and older. Register in the Children’s Room. Event will be held in the Story Time Room at 4 PM.

Tuesday, May 14

Family Film: Hoot (Rated PG)

A young man moves from Montana to Florida with his family, where he’s compelled to engage in a fight to protect a population of endangered owls. Event will be held in Ruth C. Reese Hall at 3:30 PM.

Screening of Like Water for Chocolate (Rated R)

This movie is a love story between Pedro and Tita, and why they coudn't get married because Tita's mother wanted her oldest daughter to get married first, and have Tita to stay and take care of her. It shows how marriage was imposed in those times, and how a love between two people can change everything.. Event will be held in Reese Hall at 6:30 PM.

Saturday, May 18

Early Literacy Workshop

Join us for a special morning of sharing stories, songs, rhymes, and tips on developing early literacy skills in young children. For children ages 0-5 years old and their caregivers. Register in the Children’s Room beginning May 1st. Event will be held in Ruth C. Reese Hall at 11 AM.

Scrapbooking, Knitting, and Crocheting (SKC)

Scrapbooking, Knitting, and Crocheting (SKC) is held monthly in Ruth C Reese Hall of the library. If you would like to learn how to knit or crochet, volunteers are here to assist you. Space is also provided for your scrapbook projects. Registration is not required. Event will be in Reese Hall at 2 PM.

Tuesday, May 21

Chamber Music Concert with Paul Stein and David Garrett

Paul Stein and David Garrett of the Los Angeles Philharmonic visit the library for a concert of music for violin and cello. Event will be held in Reese Hall at 7 PM.

Thursday, May 23

Manga Drawshop with Janell Mithani

Teens are invited to learn drawing tips and techniques from artist Janell Mithani, with a special focus on the Manga and Anime aesthetic. Event will be held in Reese Hall at 3 PM.

Wednesday, May 29

TAB Recognition & End of the Year Carnival

TAB and teens are invited to celebrate the end of the school year with a carnival-themed TAB recognition. Event will be held in Reese Hall at 3 PM.
